At the Dunvegan Committee Meeting tonight it has been confirmed that due to the 3 very bad wet winters Mrs Macleod's Croft will NOT be suitable to use so sadly there will be NO DUNVEGAN HORSE SHOW this year.
We are hoping very much that after some TLC it will be ready for the return of the Dunvegan Horse Show next year in 2017.
We would like to Thank our New Committee members Stuart Gordon and William Gordon who have put in lots of planning for the Horse Show. We look forward to announcing it's return in July 2017.

Durinish & Bracadale Agricultural Association Annual Show Report Saturday 25th July 2015

The 2015 Dunvegan Show was held on a balmy summer’s day and not a drop of rain fell much to the relief of the Dunvegan Show Committee.

The day started with judging of Home Produce, Horticulture, Handicrafts, Art, Photography and Children’s classes. There was an increase in entries across the board.

The popular Children’s music competition was organised again this year by local music teacher Nan Cleghorn.  The judges - Meg Rosher (wind instruments), and Maria Pelletti (guitar), were both impressed by the high standard of musicianship and enthusiasm from the competitors.

Livestock judging concluded with John MacDonald of Tarscavaig; choosing the Champion of Champions, this year’s honour went to Alexander MacDonald of Corriebhein with his stunning Charolais Cross Calf.  The cheviot Champion was Angus Beaton of Gesto; with his cheviot ewe lamb.  Blackface Champion was awarded to Neil Montgomery of Ose with his Blackface ewe.  Mary Montgomery of Penifiler won Best Sheep any Breed with her Texal lamb.  The winner of Crofter with most points was Billy Mackintosh of Dunvegan.

This year’s dog show followed show trend with 51 dogs participating. New classes for this year included best party trick which proved extremely popular and entertained the large crowd of spectators.  Best in Show was won by Bailey the Border collie handled and owned by John Pickering of Broadford.  Lucky Bailey won a bag of dog food kindly donated by Rhona Campbell’s Veterinary Centre.  Judge Patricia Cutler of Portree was very impressed by the wide variety of breeds represented and the high standard of entries.

There was a marked increase in the number of fleeces submitted for judging despite the inclement summer  and delay for some in shearing but apparently with 42 fleeces entered we had more than those exhibited at this year’s Royal Highland Show!

The children who came to the Show enjoyed lots of entertainment including tug o’ war competitions, body zorbs, Dunia the stilt, bouncy castle and for the first time Free Pony rides provided by Skye Trekking Centre.  This proved very popular with youngsters eager to meet Bertie and Selkie the ponies.  Musical entertainment was provided once again by Portree High School Pipe Band, a very popular attraction with all the visitors to Dunvegan Show.  A fantastic day was had by all.  On behalf of the Dunvegan Show Committee I would like to thank all those who helped with the organisation, those who participated and visitors who all helped in making this year’s Dunvegan Show a huge success.
